International Day of the Girl is a global promotion of the empowerment and fulfilment of the human rights of all girls.
All around the world girls and young women face challenges simply because of their gender. In 2011 the UN declared October 11 the United Nations General Assembly declared October 11 the International Day of the Girl Child to recognise those challenges and celebrate girls and young women who overcome those challenges by the breaking boundaries of inequality, stereotypes, discrimination, and loss of autonomy.
The Salvation Army’s International Social Justice Commission invite you to join them in celebrating how girls and young women within the Salvation Army are caring for the environment.
The International Social Justice Commission has been collecting video submission from around the world from girls and young women that creatively show how they are caring for the environment. The video will be released on YouTube at 12am on Monday 11 October (NZT). They have also put together a service outline to help corps and centres celebrate International Day of the Girl corporately on Sunday 10 October.
