How many times do you start something only to find your mind is thinking of something else? Distractions are a part of everyday life. It helps to make lists to keep focused and help you achieve what you want in a day. However it is easy to become task and list bound and miss out on what is a really important 'God moment' distraction.
The well known story of Mary & Martha can help remind us to watch for the God moments. Read the story in Luke 10:38–42. Mary was focused on listening to Jesus and sitting at his feet, while Martha was more concerned about the list of tasks in the kitchen and serving the guests.
Are you a Mary or a Martha? Or may be a little of both. Jesus reminded Martha that at some point in our day there is only one thing worth being concerned about, the God moment. Mary had discovered it, and it would not be taken from her.
Some times it is better to be a Martha especially when the distractions are not from God and they work to keep us from doing God’s work. Those distractions would get us tangled up and cause us to trip.
Consider your own faith journey. What are the task lists or worldly distractions in your life that are keeping you from where God wants you to be? Ask God for wisdom to know if a distraction is a God moment or an entanglement.
Some helpful words in Hebrews 12 v 1, 'Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.'
