Less Is more

I’m no Nigella Lawson or Martha Stewart, but I love a fresh, crisp lettuce salad.  Whether it’s a Caesar, Greek, or tomato, cucumber and lettuce simply tossed together.  It just has to be fresh.  Our kids have often heard of the days when we had a veggie plot in our backyard.  We relay the experience of picking lettuce etc that would be eaten minutes later for dinner.  Delish!

These memories needed to become current reality.  So Isabella (8) and I began to dream about what we could grow.  We purchased our manure, watering can and seedlings (my gardening skills are fairly limited here) finding a sunny spot we prepared our soil and planted the seedlings – now we just needed to remember to water our veggies and possibly chase away any snails heading our way.

My reading on that day was 1 Corinthians 3, and verses 5-8 specifically apply.

“What, after all, is Apollos?  And what is Paul?  Only servants, through whom you came to believe- as the Lord has assigned to each his task.  I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow.  So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.  The man who plants and the man who waters have one purpose, and each will be rewarded according to his own labor.” (NIV)

The longer I walk with Jesus, the more I realise it’s less about what I do and more about what he does.  I can plant and water, but the Lord ensures it grows. It is necessary to make ourselves available, to put in the work and prep 100%, but it’s God who turns that into kingdom affecting reality.

Less about my effort and more about his equipping…Less about my gifts and more about my surrender…Less about my study and prep and more about my prep in prayer…Less about what others think and more about what the Lord wants…Less about what I do and more about my repentance…Less is definitely more!
