We humans often get hung up on ritual, forms and requirements when we practice religion. Wouldn't it be great if God simply wanted to have a loving relationship with us? What if all God really wants from us is to connect?
When Jesus started a conversation with a Samaritan woman, she was shocked. Religious Jewish men of her day would have pretended she was not there. Jesus began the conversation by asking her for water. Since she was already getting water from the well, it seems like a reasonable request to us. This shocking request was the beginning of an important revelation that is still changing lives today:
'But the time is coming indeed its here now when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way. For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.' John 4:23 & 24 (NLT)
The Bible teaches us that sin keeps us from connecting with God, but Jesus came to take away sin so that we can reconnect with God. It is that simple. What is keeping you from connecting with God in spirit and in truth?
