The Salvation Army’s annual Christmas Appeal, titled ‘Give A Little Joy This Christmas,’ has launched.
Thousands of Kiwis across the motu are struggling as the cost-of-living crisis deepens—challenges that can feel even harder around Christmas.
That’s where ‘Give A Little Joy This Christmas’ comes in. When people donate to the Christmas Appeal, they help families know not only the joy of Christmas, but also help bring long-term change into their lives. Every donation, regardless of size, can make a difference and bring joy.
Donations are used for providing wraparound services for individuals and their whānau, including access to nutritious food, budgeting advice, counselling, positive lifestyle programmes, gifts and more.
This year’s Christmas Appeal is also not the end of the story. Donations are used to support individuals and their whānau year-round.
“We see the difference the generosity our community makes for those who need a helping hand,” says Captain Andrew Wilson, Salvation Army Queenstown corps officer (church leader), director of Community Ministries and Christmas Appeal spokesperson.
“By giving to our Christmas Appeal, everyday New Zealanders can make a real difference in the lives of those who are hit hardest by the rising cost of living. It’s a privilege to see firsthand what the generosity of a stranger can do for families doing it tough.”
