The Salvation Army submission has been threefold:
1) That the focus of the consultation on the financial viability of gambling societies is concerning, and that the focus should be instead on reducing the number of pokies and gambling related harm;
2) That the current community funding model in New Zealand where community groups rely on a source that effectively creates harm is inherently problematic;
3) That under the current model, if this is to be a source of funding for community groups, return to the community should be at the maximum, not further reduced and subject to the lobbying power of pokie venues.
